As the daughter and granddaughter of professional artists, I spent most of my childhood in the independent art galleries of Detroit. This perspective, justxaposed with my suburban education, allowed me to gain unique insight on how arts and economics interact. In 2023, I curated an art show of my grandfather's work at the Detroit Children’s Museum. That same year, and again in 2024, I served as a Volunteer Camp Counselor for a neighborhood improvement–themed art camp for children in Detroit, helping kids connect creativity with civic pride.
These experiences inspired my research on how political art shaped Detroit’s blight policy, blending quantitative economic data with the lived narratives of residents. I spent much of high school conducting interviews with children, artists, and policymakers. From these insights, I developed a local art history curriculum supplement for the elementary school I attended and wrote two research papers.
